Apple has recently bought Pixelmator, the renowned photo editing tool on Mac.
The Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps might stay the same for now, however, new updates are soon to be introduced.
The Pixelmator team, which has been around for 17 years, is now going to work for Apple.
Pixelmator has continuously released regular updates, including AI and ML tools for photo adjustments, vector tools, and support for more RAW photo formats.
The Workflow app was later discontinued but helped create Apple’s powerful Shortcuts feature. Apps like Final Cut and Logic Pro continued to remain as separate apps.
However, the Pixelmator apps are predicted not to be absorbed into Apple’s suite and then discontinue over time. Apple’s track record with software acquisitions is mixed. For instance, the Dark Sky weather app was integrated into Apple’s Weather apps and later discontinued as a standalone app.
Similarly, the Workflow app was phased out but led to the development of Apple’s Shortcuts feature. On the other hand, Final Cut and Logic Pro, both acquired by Apple, have continued to thrive as standalone apps.
Pixelmator expressed its excitement by saying, “Inspired by Apple since day one, we’ve focused on design, ease of use, and performance. Now, as part of Apple, we’ll reach an even wider audience and impact more creatives worldwide.”
This acquisition by Apple could change the way we edit photos on iOS devices. Although there might be a new subscription fee for accessing the features of the new “Photos Pro” app.
This move shows Apple’s dedication to improving creative tools on its devices. Now, it will be interesting to see how this acquisition impacts photo editing in the future.
