Apple is reportedly working on a foldable iPad and aims to release it in 2026 or 2027.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this innovative device will feature an expansive 18.8-inch screen with almost an invisible crease. The device, thus, resembles “two iPad Pros side-by-side.”
This rumor about the foldable iPad has been circulating for years, and according to recent updates, a smaller model may be released and hit the market as soon as 2026 or 2027.
Gurman’s latest report says that the device will be a 20-inch folding “iPad/MacBook hybrid” he discussed in 2022.
While it may not run macOS directly, Gurman suggests that by 2028, the iPad could be revamped to support macOS apps.
The idea of a foldable iPad is exciting, especially considering that Macs can already run apps designed for iPhones and iPads. This means a foldable iPad could combine the best of both worlds, offering a big screen for work or entertainment, while still being compact enough to carry around. Imagine having the power and flexibility of a Mac in a device that folds up for easy portability!
This ability of the iPadOS to run macOS apps would significantly enhance the device’s versatility.
With the 13-inch iPad Pro starting at $1,299, the ability to run macOS apps on a nearly double-sized device might help justify the higher price point.
In addition to this, there are rumors that Apple is looking forward to rolling out an 18.8-inch foldable iPad and new MacBook Pros with OLED screens by 2026. After that, they’ll update the MacBook Air with an OLED screen in 2027.
