Now Google users can easily manage all their Nest Cam IQ indoor and Next Cam outdoor cameras through the Google Home app, as part of its ongoing effort to move away from the Nest app.
So, from now onwards, all the Nest cameras released since 2015 can be managed using the Google Home app instead of the Nest app.
Over the past few years, Google has gradually enabled Nest Cam integration into the Google Home app.
This transformation of the Nest Cam IQ cameras to the Home app helps you access camera settings, review video history, and much more without needing to switch between apps!
Using the Home app, you can join live streams from your cameras in the favorite tab and set up automation.
Besides you can also join the public preview enrolling through the Home app or by visiting home.google.com.
If you’re already part of the Public Preview, you’ll receive instructions in both the Google Home app’s Favorites tab and the Nest app with detailed prompts on how to transfer your Nest Cam.
If required, Google also allows you to reverse the transfer and move your Nest Cam IQ cameras back to the Nest app.
Google plans to start rolling out this access in the coming week. Additionally, Google now supports managing Nest Hub Max devices through the Home app for Public Preview users. However, unlike the Nest Cam IQ cameras, once you transfer Nest Hub Max devices to the Home app, you cannot move them back to the Nest app.
Previously, Google had already allowed the transfer of the Nest Cam Indoor – wired, first-gen, Nest Cam Outdoor wired, first-gen, and the Nest Hello / Nest Doorbell wired, first-gen to the Home app.
Despite these changes, Google states it will continue to support the Nest app, with no current changes to the Nest app experience.
Currently, the only Nest products that still require the Nest app are the Nest Protect smoke detector and the Nest x Yale door lock.
