Google discontinued its famous Chromecast line of streaming devices nearly after a decade.
The tech giant is launching Google TV Streamer, a feature-rich, more powerful set-top box.
This device is designed to compete with high-end devices like Roku Ultra and Apple TV.
Although Google TV Streamer is not a direct replacement for Chromecast, it has a much faster processor, 4 GB RAM, and 32 GB storage.
The device also supports 4K streaming at 60fps, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.
This makes it more capable of producing high-quality video content.
The Google TV Streamer has advanced AI capabilities powered by Google Gemini to enhance user experience.
With the help of the AI tool, users can quickly summarize content or get reviews of movies and shows and personalized watchlist recommendations.
It also functions as a smart home hub, integrating with Google Home and Matter-compliant devices for seamless control over connected devices.
While the Google TV Streamer offers significant improvements over the Chromecast, it is expensive, with a price tag of $100, compared to the $50 4K Chromecast with Google TV.
The new device also doesn’t include an HDMI cable in the box, adding to the overall cost.
Despite being a bit expensive, the Google TV Streamer can be a good option for users seeking a high-performance streaming device with advanced features and smart home capabilities.
Google has opened pre-orders for the Google TV Streamer, with shipments expected to begin on September 26.
