Google is rolling out new AI features powered by its Gemini models to Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive.
In Gmail, a Gemini side panel will be introduced that summarizes email threads and assists in drafting new emails.
Users can get proactive prompts or ask freeform questions, leveraging advanced Gemini 1.5 Pro models. The Gmail mobile app will also offer Gemini-powered email thread summaries.
These AI capabilities are exclusive to paid Gemini subscribers, requiring a Google Workspace plan with a Gemini add-on or a Google One AI Premium subscription.
While helpful, verifying its important emails generated by Gemini is advised, as AI can sometimes provide inaccurate information.
What can Gemini in Gmail do on the web?
Gemini in Gmail on the web is built to leverage Google’s models with much-advanced reasoning power and context window. Here is how you can use Gemini on the web:
- Summarize your email threads.
- Take help to draft an email.
- Suggest response to the emails.
- Search for specific information from the email threads and ask relative questions within the email inbox or Google Drive.
Google is also expanding Gemini features to the side panels of Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, as announced at I/O 2024. Additional AI updates for Gmail, such as “Contextual Smart Reply,” are planned for the future.
