How To Play Local Couch Co-Op In Baldur’s Gate 3?

When you want to recharge, what better way than to cozy up with friends or family and play your favorite couch co-op games? Add Baldur's Gate 3 to this list as well.

Couch co-op in games has been around for decades but has recently regained popularity.

This resurgence in popularity is due to the rise of indie games that often focus on couch co-op rather than AAA games.

Local couch co-op allows the players to enjoy the game, sharing a single screen.

    Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a 4-player online co-op, a 2-player Split-screen co-op, and a combo Co-op.

Now, read this article to know how co-op works in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How To Join A Local Co-Op In Baldur’s Gate 3?

Both players need to be playing on controllers for local co-op to access the feature.

Instead of choosing a multiplayer game, you can select a new game.

Once you are at the Character creator, press X or A, depending on your controller. Then, you will be in the split screen mode.

Whenever you come back to play in this campaign again, you need to activate your second controller, and you will get the split screen mode.

Similar to the online co-op, if you start a campaign alone and add the split screen partner later in the game, they will have to create a new character and not be able to choose an Origin Player.

Here, we suggest that the PC players use DirectX 11 instead of Vulcan while launching the game.

You can also join a combo co-op in Baldur’s Gate 3. In combo co-op, you can play with a friend on a split screen and, at the same time, play with friends online

You can also double up and have two players playing split-screen on one system while connecting online to 2 players playing on another.

We should mention here that there is no share progression. The host only has the save, and when you plan to play in your Co-op campaign, you should ensure that that host is available; otherwise, you will not be able to play.

If you have a party of three players and one person is unavailable, you can play without them.

All you need to do is reassign their characters to someone else. If you have another friend who wants to join temporarily, taking that specific player’s place, they must make a custom character.

So, the host has the save, and you can join as long as they are available, but everybody else will not have the game progression saved. Outside the game saving, the players are allowed to do anything they want or go anywhere they want in the game.

They can also talk to any NPC they want. The non-host players have no limitations in the campaign.

The layers will not have to worry about the loot drops. The inventory can be shared between all the four players.

    Wrapping Up

So, we can only say that co-op makes the game more accessible by allowing you to focus on less than four characters and offers an excellent gaming experience.

Before you proceed, remember that there will be no cross-play between PC and PS5 for Baldur’s Gate 3, and you will have to stick to one particular system.
