Microsoft is set to make waves at CES 2025 with a major announcement about their new Mini AI PCs, featuring Copilot Plus capabilities.

Anticipation is building as this innovation is going to provide much better communication with desktop-like devices, with AI advancements of their Arm-based Copilot Plus laptops earlier in 2024.

The Mini PCs offer the full power of a desktop in a compact, convenient, and portable form.

Microsoft’s focus on Copilot Plus features for Windows 11 sets these new mini PCs apart. These devices promise advanced AI-driven tools like –

    • Recall – A Windows-native assistant to remember specifics within apps, files, and interactions.
    • Click-To-Do – AI-fueled task management to perform automated, context-aware actions.
    • AI-Powered Image Editing – Tools to create and modify visuals with minimal effort.

These tasks require significant AI performance, and Microsoft has set a demanding baseline for Copilot Plus devices at 40 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) in AI processing.

Several companies are already embracing the Copilot Plus initiative.

For example, Asus announced the NUC 14 Pro AI, a mini PC with Copilot Plus support. It features a Copilot button on the front for easy activation.

Its size is nearly identical to the Apple Mac Mini, positioning it as a direct competitor.

Geekom revealed three mini-PC models, two of which qualify for Copilot Plus. AMD’s Strix Point CPUs power one, and the other is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor, moving beyond laptops into stationary PCs.

A third model uses Intel’s Arrow Lake-H processors, which don’t qualify for Copilot Plus due to insufficient NPU strength.

Microsoft’s push for mini AI PCs aims to fill the gap where traditional desktops fall short. While Apple’s Mac Mini has set a high standard in the compact PC market, Microsoft’s AI-powered Windows machines aim to compete on performance and size.

Mini PCs could bridge the gap until desktop hardware advances with more capable Neural Processing Units (NPUs) from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm.

At CES, Windows chief Pavan Davuluri hinted at “dedicated AI hardware,” suggesting future wearables and health-related devices.

This move could see Microsoft re-enter the wearable market with AI-enhanced fitness trackers, health monitors, and augmented reality devices.
