Meta is possibly testing a new feature that allows Quest VR users to share individual windows with others in virtual reality.
One VR fan named Luna found some buried text within the latest build of Horizon OS, version 76 that spoke of a “share” button so people can share a particular panel with others in their virtual environment, and an “unshare” button to end sharing.
Right now, users of Meta Quest can already broadcast their whole first-person VR or mixed reality screen, and services like YouTube VR already have watching videos together in their support.
There’s no sharing a single 2D window, however, such as a web browser or an app, with other people in VR. This new feature would change all that, letting people share a single portion of their virtual workspace instead of their whole screen.
The concept is similar to Apple’s SharePlay on Vision Pro, which allows users to watch together in supported apps such as Apple TV Plus, Hulu, and Max. If Meta goes ahead with this feature, it would potentially make social experiences and collaboration in VR more engaging, allowing individuals to watch and comment on particular content in real time.
Meta hasn’t officially announced or confirmed this feature yet, so we’ll have to wait and see when or if it becomes available. So, stay tuned for the news updates.
