Spotify has dispatched a new update to Apple for its iPhone application. The update may bring significant changes for United States users.
If approved by Apple, users of the Spotify application will be able to view real prices, receive special promotions, and pay through means other than Apple’s payment service.
This is just after a significant ruling in the Epic Games v. Apple court case. The court held that Apple cannot anymore prevent developers from displaying other methods of payment for services. It also stated that Apple cannot take a commission on payments outside its own ecosystem.
This is a huge victory for firms such as Spotify, which have contended for many years that Apple’s guidelines were not fair.
In a blog post, Spotify stated this decision is the most important step yet towards making the app experience more enjoyable and equitable for all. The company states it’s thrilled to finally be able to provide features that it feels should have been offered all along.
If Apple approves the update, Spotify users in the U.S. will be able to:
- View real prices for subscriptions and special offers right within the app.
- Tap on a link to switch from a Free account to Premium.
- Switch easily between Premium plans, such as Student, Duo, or Family.
- Pay with other means, not only Apple’s payment system. Spotify will allow users to select more payment methods on its website.
- Purchase more content, such as audiobooks, in an easy manner that benefits creators to earn more.
Now, it’s just a matter of waiting to see if Apple will approve the update. Stay tuned for more such news updates.
