OpenAI’s official ChatGPT, exclusively built for MacOS, Sonoma, or later versions, is now available to all users.

The app goes beyond simple text conversations. It is like the desktop window version of the web app to give a more seamless experience.

The AI app acts like a super-powered research assistant that allows you to choose between GPT-3.5, GPT-4, or the even faster and more affordable GPT-4o.

The app lets you switch between these models depending on your needs and preferences. You can also use the DALL-E image generator directly with the app.

But that is not the end. OpenAI offers more to explore.

It has integrated a super convenient keyboard shortcut that you can access by pressing Option + Space keys. This shortcut functions similarly to Mac’s Spotlight search. With a quick tap, you can prompt ChatGPT anytime, anywhere on your Mac.

This new app also helps you quickly analyze some text from a screenshot. It allows you to take screenshots and discuss them directly with ChatGPT, making the research task much more accessible.

This new release is a significant step forward for ChatGPT accessibility, especially for Mac users. However, it would help if you kept some things in mind while using the app.

The app lacks API support, so you’ll still need to rely on third-party options if you need that functionality.

Additionally, this app is different from the upcoming deeper integration of ChatGPT into Siri and Apple’s operating system, which is expected later this year. That integration will allow Siri to deal with complex questions with ChatGPT, offering a more unified user experience.

While Windows users might feel left out, there’s no need to despair, as OpenAI has plans to release a Windows version of the app later this year.

In the meantime, Windows users can explore other AI chatbot options, like Microsoft’s ChatGPT-powered Copilot, which is rapidly being integrated into many of their products.
